Mustang – Bareback and Theme Day!

IMG_4999

Yesterday the girls had bareback day down at the barn! In the morning they met the village PokeyTotem (boys and girls, age 7-9) for a short morning hike! They went off into the woods to go exploring and to play trail games in the Frost Valley wilderness. They had the opportunity to play a hide and seek game in the woods and make new friends! They loved it! It was a great time for them to all get to know the other kids and they enjoyed the trail games. Right after the morning walk, they came back to the fire pit to have banana boats! They sliced open a banana and stuffed chocolate and marshmallows into it. They covered it with tin foil and then put it in the fire to melt. Then the girls ate the warm bananas with melted chocolate and gooey marshmallows. It was yummy!

At the barn they rotated through activities. They had a lesson on horseback, but instead of a typical lesson, they rode bareback! They rode their horses without saddles and got to feel like true Native Americans before they invented saddles. They were able to feel every movement of the horses more smoothly. The girls could feel each individual step that the horse took underneath them. They were able to count the steps, feel the horse take bigger steps over poles, and see how the horse would bend as they turned around corners and in circles. They also did show grooming! They groomed their horses so that they were shiny and even braided their manes and tails!

In the evening, they joined the rest of the camp for a dance party! The theme was space wedding. They all dressed up in their most alien look alike costumes and then made wedding veils to top it all off. The girls loved to mingle with the other villages in the giant dance. They were also able to run around in the field next to the hard courts. They loved the day and were happy to be able to have so much fun with all of the other sections of camp!

Today the girls were able to sleep in and then have brunch. We headed to the dining hall and had waffles, chicken tenders, broccoli, salad, fruit, and ice cream SUNDAY! They loved having ice cream for the meal time. Then we headed back to the lodge to get ready for the day! They got all ready and hopped onto the busses so that we could head to East Valley Ranch!

East Valley Ranch is the all girls horse back riding program for the older girls (age 10-15). Mustang went over for Finding Nemo Theme Day! They did all sorts of water/ocean themed activities including: sardines, water balloon games, creeking, underwater themed scavenger hunts, Nemo arts and crafts, and many more! After snack and a break they headed back outside to play water games! They all splashed around and dumped water around. It was a huge water fight – counselors and campers included.

Then we had dinner and headed back on the busses to end our night! They came back and had shower hour before an evening campfire! They played games and sang songs and smiled and laughed around. They all roasted marshmallows and enjoyed the warm fire’s heat. They finished up the night with some final songs and hopped into bed after the sun had set and the stars shined bright. They looked up at the sky before heading back in and looked for constellations and shooting stars. The girls happily hopped into bed after a long and tiring day.

Note: Since we were at EVR today, we shared cameras because we were all combined in activities. If you want to see more photos, please check out the EVR smug mug – https://frostvalley.smugmug.com/Summer-Camp-2016/Session-2-2016/EVR-Session-2/
