Not to long ago in a valley not far far away…

Our two oldest villages Windsong and PAC trekked out on their respective overnights today! Windsong hiked out to Merrill’s Pavilion commonly known by our campers as Pete’s Pavilion, their journey brought though the old town of Ladelton and straight up to Pete’s. After their seven hour journey they were happy to sit back and enjoy a meal of chicken fajitas and take in the beautiful view of the Catskill Mountains. Both Emma and I checked in on them and the girls had nothing but amazing things to say about their adventure through the woods. Its exciting to hear about how a hike can change a person, the feeling of accomplishment coupled with the natural beauty of the Catskills is something that can’t be described well enough without actually experiencing it.

We then visited the Pac they were finishing up eating their campfire grilled cheese burgers! Its interesting watching a pack of hungry teenaged boys eat. The conversations around campfires and at their temporary shelters spanned from discussions of their hike to Pete’s tomorrow to what the all camp event will be like this year (Hirdstock) as they passed around a small shared container of Adobo (an almost essential spice that pops up at most BBQ’s here at Frost Valley).

All in all the trips went off without a hitch, the comradere and friendships made on these trips are essential to all campers experience here. They will leave Frost Valley as a rag tag group of teens and come back as the unified and tight knit unit that we are all proud to call Pac/Windsong.

Born in New York but raised in Ireland, Morgan has spent every summer he can remember flying back to the US to attend summer camps. Over the years that Morgan worked at a well-regarded private camp in Maine, he took on many roles including Cabin Counselor, Head of Rocks and Ropes, Program Director, and Operations Director. Morgan began working at Frost Valley as a program instructor in 2014, leading activities for our schools and weekend programs, before becoming our Director of Camp Henry Hird. Campers at Camp Henry Hird range in age from 13 to 16. Morgan loves working with this age group as he finds that this is the time of their life where they form into unique individuals and discover the values that they will hold with them for the rest of their lives.
